This course will meet in person Sundays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

                    100% ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CLASSES (without exception).

Course begins Wednesday, January 22, 2025, and will end on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.  All college holidays will be observed.

The training program for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) has an overall objective to improve the quality of pre-hospital emergency care rendered to victims of accidents and sudden illness. As such, the course develops skills in symptom recognition and in all emergency care procedures and techniques currently considered to be within the responsibilities of an EMT providing emergency medical care with an ambulance service.

The course consists of 35 lessons involving 160 hours of classroom, lecture, hands-on practical scenarios, 24 hours of online and supplemental certification courses, and 16 hours of field observation.  The curriculum meets and/or exceeds the National EMS Education Standards and is taught by a state-approved EMT Instructor/Coordinator.

This course has been developed for all individuals desiring to perform emergency medical care with an ambulance service. No prior experience or training is required of the course applicant. In order to be eligible for National and State EMT certification examination, applicants must:

  • be able to read, understand, and communicate in English;

  • be 17 years of age (must be 18 years of age to take NREMT certification exams);

  • must have a valid driver’s license or valid government-issued identification (passport) prior to taking this course;

  • be free from addiction to alcohol or any drug;

  • be able to lift and carry 125 pounds;

  • be free from any physical or mental defect or disease which might impair his/her ability to provide emergency care within the scope of the EMTs training and responsibilities, or which might jeopardize the health of another member of the class;

  • have internet access;

  • proof of vaccinations and negative TB test.

The student must successfully complete and pass all components of the course (including 100% attendance), and tuition and exam fees must be paid in full (prior to the completion of the course) in order to be able to sit for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts EMT Practical Exam and the National Registry of EMT’s Cognitive Exam.

This course meets and/or exceeds the guidelines set forth by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health for the minimum requirements for first responder training courses in first aid, which all first responders must take, in order to meet the requirements of M.G.L. c. 111, Section 201 and 105 CMR 171.130(A).

Course length:  40 Hours, includes online modules, and in-person skills session to be completed.

Emergency Medical Responders provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services system. EMRs have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive.  EMRs also provide assistance to higher-level personnel at the scene of emergencies and during transport.  Emergency Medical Responders are a vital part of the comprehensive EMS response.  Under medical oversight, Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.

This course is designed for those with limited medical training.  It prepares those who work in Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Rescue Squad Personnel, Athletic Trainers, Students, Emergency Response Teams, including those who may work Industrial Settings (i.e. Construction, etc) for medical emergencies they may one day face.

Throughout the course, students participate in core skills competencies, practical scenarios, and are given written quizzes.  A final exam upon completion of the course is administered requiring a passing score of 80% or above.

Certification Period: Upon successful completion of this course, participants are awarded a Certificate of Completion, American Heart Association BLS Provider Card, and other supplemental certifications, good for up to 2 years (recommended renewal every 2 years).

 

For those who are current Massachusetts EMTs who do not hold NREMT status and are looking to obtain National Registry certification.
